2011 Board Elections Candidate Statement:
I’m a current member of the legal/finance committee and the interim bookkeeper. In my professional life, I work with the Philadelphia Public School Notebook and have managed our transition to a new constituent relationship management system, CiviCRM, which the South Philly Food Coop is also beginning to use to track membership and contributions. My experience in the nonprofit world, with technology, and keen eye for detail have been useful in tracking contributions and contributing to discussions with both a big-picture and microscopic view.
I grew up in Erie, PA, which has had a co-op for several decades. South Philly reminds me a lot of Erie in terms of demographics, income level, etc. And Erie has this thriving co-op that is filled with more than just affluent people and hippies. It’s a place where people can learn, make connections and build community with other people, and have access to great food. I’m excited about bringing a similar environment to the community I live in now. A place where members are invested in this effort together, and in building a broader community and connecting with the neighborhood.
I value that a cooperative is something that we all build and contribute to together, and that creates value beyond our individual efforts. I’m really grateful that I’ve been able to be involved with the planning so far and have had the opportunity to learn from and volunteer with so many amazing folks. With the creation of an official board of directors, I appreciate the opportunity to continue my involvement with this planning and thank you for your time and consideration.
